Unprecedented Number of New Nurses Out of Work in Scotland

According to an article in the Nursing Times, vol 25, January 2011, the number of nurses struggling to find work has soared in the last three months. A government spokesperson confirmed that meeting employement targets was a challenge and admitted the intake for new nurses had been dropped from 3,060 to 2,700. Scottish Health boards announced earlier this year that 1,523 nursing posts would be cut.

The RCN (Royal College of Nurses) has been advising job hunters to look outside the NHS.
