Botox Treatment Questions

Where does BOTOX come from?

BOTOX® is the short and medical abbreviation for botulinum toxin-A. BOTOX is naturally occurring. In the 1950s it was discovered that very small quantities of  botulinum toxin type-A, when injected into muscles, would produce a reduction in muscle activity. Botox has been used medically for disorders involving the head and neck, such as dystonia, migraines and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) for many years.

Who makes Botox?

BOTOX® is manufactured by Allergan, Inc and was the first botulinum toxin–A to be licensed for cosmetic use. However, at Qutis we also use Xeomin (manufactured in Germany by Merz) and other toxins also licensed for cosmetic use.

How common is Botox Use?

BOTOX® has been used for cosmetic injections relatively recently. It is now reported that since 2008 it has become the most common cosmetic operation with over 5 million procedures in the United States.

What is Botox Used for?

Botox is mainly used in cosmetic injections to prevent the development of wrinkles and frown lines by temporarily paralysing specific facial muscles. The effect of Botox lasts for 3 to 6 months and in some cases slightly longer than this. Our patients often tell us that their friends and colleagues comment that they look younger and more relaxed after they have received a Botox treatment.

Who injects Botox?

It is very important that the person injecting Botox takes a full medical history and performs a face to face patient consultation. Botox is a prescription medicine and is subject to strict control. It is essential that the Botox injector (normally a specialist nurse prescriber or doctor) fully understands the muscle structure of the face and the underlying anatomy. This is vital when injecting a toxin with the objective of achieving an aesthetic or cosmetic result.

Do you follow up Botox Treatments?

At Qutis, we always urge patients to see us for a follow-up around 14 to 21 days after treatment. This is particularly valuable with patients who have Botox treatments for the first time as it allows us to monitor the effect of the toxin injection on their own particular anatomy. We also allow for a free top-up treatment if this is seen to be necessary at consultation stage.

Do Qutis have Botox Experience?

Our nurses and doctors have performed Botox injections on thousands of patients. We believe we can offer one of the most highly qualified and experienced teams available in the UK. The team have a combined experience of over 40 years. Some of our team co-wrote the training competencies used by all nurses. Marea Brennan Thorns was a founder and chair of the aesthetic nurse forum.

    1. OK great, call your nearest clinic and our trained staff will give you an indication. We always encourage a face to face consultation as the practitioner is just as important as the product and they may suggest other treatment options depending on what you wish to achieve.
