It can be very liberating not to have to put up with excessive sweating.
You no longer have to feel damp or even dripping sweat under your arms. This can be very destracting especially in public or in a business environment.
Suffers of hyperhidrosis know that sometimes you may need to change clothes two or three times a day. Treatment for many can mean being able to wear the same clothes all day.
Using excessive antiperspirant and deodorant to combat hyperhidrosis can cause skin irritation. Always carrying these products with you can become a chore, as well as expensive.
Your process starts with a thorough one to one consultation and Botox prescription with your nurse. Treatment for Hyperhidrosis is then really quite simple and is normally completed at the same appointment.
Botox is a preparation of protein which, when small doses are injected into the skin, blocks the nerves that supply the eccrine glands; this prevents the glands from producing sweat. You can request a local anaesthetic cream be applied in sensitive areas such as hands or feet in most cases your nurse will just use an ice pack to help you feel even more comfortable.
Botox is usually considered when topical treatments such as antiperspirants have been unsuccessful. Botox is only effective in treating small areas and is therefore not a viable option for treating generalised hyperhidrosis.
Your Nurse will answer all questions in your consultation, here are the most common ones.

Choose clothing that will keep you cool. Natural fibres are cool but they can absorb sweat and can remain damp. Have a change of clothing available in the day. Keep your work environment cool and well aired. Avoid the food and drinks that trigger your sweating. Reduce stress during your day. Clothes odour is normally prevented by frequent washing, natural fibres like wool will trap sweat odour for several days.
