Since being approved for wrinkle treatment in 2002, in Oxford it has become insanely popular for patients seeking a cosmetic intervention. However, Botox isn’t all about the looks – and if you are on a fence about this unique treatment, it may be worth understanding some of the lesser known benefits of Botox with them.
Today, we are going to discuss some of the most amazing benefits of anti-wrinkle treatment you need to know about!
But first, it’s worth talking about…
Or, to be exact, the way we like to explain it to our patients. The following phrasing seems to work well: next time you are thinking about having a muscle relaxant treatment, think of the treatment as disrupting the brain-muscle connection, creating a shield of sorts.
Thus, even if one intends to move a muscle that’s treated by the anti-wrinkle treatment, it becomes physically impossible until the effects wear off.
Drooping brow, also referred to as “brow ptosis”, is a condition that may develop due to a variety of causes, from natural ageing to trauma and even, to a certain extent, an unhealthy diet.
No matter the reason, the anti-wrinkle treatment can help reverse this defect that causes patients to constantly appear tired, sad and grumpy, as well as older than their actual age. In this case, Botox works by relaxing the involved muscles and keeping them aloft.
Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is defined as “a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably. People with hyperhidrosis may sweat even when the temperature is cool or when they are at rest”.
Abnormally high sweating is extremely uncomfortable for you – but with the muscle relaxant treatment, it doesn’t have to be! Just like with muscles, Botox can also disrupt the connection between the brain and sweat glands. The results are amazing – but as with all Botox treatments, temporary, and require repeat visits every several months.
Now, it’s important to note that the anti-wrinkle treatment doesn’t prevent all migraines from occurring, and it works better with some types of migraine but not others, and this is always thoroughly discussed with patients. What it does wonderfully, however, is reduce the annoying accompanying symptoms such as nausea, light sensitivity and tension, making migraines much easier to deal with. Our team will always discuss the benefits and expectation with you before any treatment.
Bell’s palsy is defined as “a paralysis or weakness of the muscles on one side of the face”. For unknow reasons, young adults of either sex are more susceptible to the condition compared to the rest of the population.
There are two options for treating the condition with the muscle relaxant, first one being administering the medication to the paralysed side of the face. This helps release unnecessary tension from the overly tight muscles, as well as remove unwanted facial tics.
The second option, which is more cosmetic in nature, is administering the treatment to the non-paralysed side of the face. This approach helps achieve a more balanced overall look, including for when the patient is talking or using the facial muscles a lot.
Of course, the muscle relaxant is not a suitable treatment for small, temporary twitches – but chances are that if someone is suffering from some permanent damage, Botox can be beneficial. In this case, Botox can certainly help! Oftentimes, persistent twitching is caused by muscle spasms, which Botox can quickly relax if used correctly.
Now, we can’t stress enough that this isn’t necessarily true for all conditions – for example, research shows that when it comes to migraine headaches, pharmaceutical intervention may be a better option long-term. However, it is also true that compared to surgical facelift and procedures, the anti-wrinkle remains one of the most cost effective cosmetic options available.
Note that this only applies to the muscle relaxant treatment, not counterfeit or non licensed or weaker formulations, which we at Qutis clinics never use!. Cost per procedure may be lower for treatments carried out by less experienced or practitioners who don't inject very much, but we at Qutis would never recommend this approach, as remedial and extra Botox may need to be carried out to correct unsatisfactory results which may end up costing more in fact.
Last but not least, the results from the anti-wrinkle injections are apparent within a couple of weeks from the procedure, the effects are in full swing, with virtually no downtime required. Once the effects have settled in, they last for several months, and with repeated injections, results may appear quicker and last longer.
In the era of instant gratification, patients love to be able to observe treatment effects within hours or days, and we find our patients at Qutis Clinics love this.
The muscle relaxant is a great treatment, but not a miracle one – and comes with possible side effects, which need to be discussed with patients! The IAPAM’s list of common and uncommon side effects of Botox includes: headache, a short lived small bruise and discomfort at the injection site (common) as well as temporary eyelid droop and muscle weakness (uncommon).
Talking over this with patients is necessary to manage expectations and make sure they don’t take the treatment too lightly, especially if it’s their first encounter with the anti-wrinkle treatment. In addition, talking through potential side effects, however unlikely, helps alleviate fears and helps bust some persistent circulating myths.
